7/7 police officer who pulled Gill Hicks from tube wreckage retires

27 February, 2017

A POLICE officer who saved a woman’s life in the aftermath of the 7/7 bomb attack has been showered with praise as he retires this week. Gill Hicks, who lived in Somers Town at the time, lost both her legs in the Piccadilly line blast, but was pulled from the wreckage by PC Andy Maxwell. On his retirement this week, she said: “Words can never be enough for my lasting gratitude and love. Will always remember Andy coming to hospital to meet me, 11 years ago – what a human!”
