Camden’s top police chief to leave role

Raj Kohli is off to the Isle of Wight and Hampshire

20 July, 2021 — By Richard Osley

Borough Commander Raj Kohli is leaving in September

THE most senior police office in Camden and Islington has announced he is leaving the job and moving to a new role in Hampshire.

A great lover of sharing his thoughts on social media, Chief Superintendent Raj Kohli appropriately tweeted his big announcement earlier this evening (Tuesday).

“I have some news to share,” he said. “After 29 years with the Met police, I have accepted an offer to join Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney and her fantastic team at Hampshire Police – subject to passing the medical – on September 26.”

“Of course I am looking forward to serving the people of Hampshire & the Isle of Wight the most.”

Asked if it was a promotion, he tweeted that it was a “lateral transfer”.

The borough commander took his role in Camden at the end of 2018, steadying the ship after Camden had seen three different figures in the top job in the course of just 12 months. Key challenges have been knife murders among warring gangs and the backlash to the armed arrest of a 12-year-old boy found to have a toy gun.
