Cyclist in a hurry pedalling furiously through red lights

18 January, 2019

• AT about 10.20am today (January 11) I was standing at the Highbury-bound bus stop in St Paul’s Road next to the church. The lights at the adjacent junction were red for traffic going across into Balls Pond Road. I saw a cyclist come hurtling down St Paul’s Road, pedalling furiously, in the middle of the road, non-stop straight through the lights and into Balls Pond Road. Luckily, nothing was going across, into or out of either Essex Road or Newington Green Road.

What was his hurry? He could have waited at the lights, but he had to get across the junction at all costs and could have caused an accident, possibly killing himself.
