A woman in her 50s was found dead in Bray
Murder detectives are investigating the death of a woman found dead in her home on the Chalcots estate.
Police were called to Bray, in Fellows Road, at around 10:30am today (Friday) and found the victim’s body inside a flat.
The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. Police are tying to trace her family, who have not yet been informed.
The tower block was evacuated in June along with four others after it was discovered that they were wrapped in flammable cladding and had a number of internal safety defects. Teams of construction workers have been at the estate for the past seven months working to correct the failings.
It is understood that her body was first spotted by contractors who were working on “mast climbers” on the outside of the building.
Police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death, but have already passed the case over to Homicide and Major Crime Command.
Residents said that the ground-floor and lifts in the 23-storey tower are covered by CCTV.
Scotland Yard said: “There has been no arrest at this early stage.”
