A THIEF who slipped watches off revellers’ wrists as they celebrated on New Year’s Eve has been jailed for 11 months.
Zajaria Lalouii, 29, was convicted of two counts of robbery and ordered to pay a £140 victim charge. The Met said its “Operation Bobcat” had spotted Lalouii taking a Burberry watch in Heddon Street, Mayfair.
He had pretended to dance with a 23-year-old man, using his legs to distract him while sneaking off his designer watch. Lalouii was searched and found to be in possession of a Rolex watch that had been stolen from a 35-year-old man in Marylebone Lane.
Westminster PC Andy Marsh said: “While nobody was injured as a result of these thefts, the effects of becoming a victim of robbery run far deeper than a loss of property.
“I hope that the conviction and sentencing of Lalouii brings a measure of comfort to the victims.”
