The vote must be for PR
08 February, 2018
• WE were part of the vigil (bitterly cold) outside parliament on a 24-hour fast for a fair voting system – the Suffragettes did a great job but our votes still don’t count.
In the last election 68 per cent of votes cast had no effect on the outcome due to “first past the post”. Small parties got 24 per cent of the votes and only 1.6 per cent of seats.
Parliament should look like we vote. MPs mostly have jobs for life. That’s not right.
If we have no real prospect of voting an MP out why would they listen to us? It is time to “take back control” for real with a PR system.
